Destination wedding FAQ: working with Andrea Coots

Answers to the questions couples ask most about planning a destination wedding with Andrea Coots, Destination Wedding Specialist with DestinationWeddings.com: what she does, what it costs, how guests book and how she handles changes.

What does a destination wedding specialist do?

A destination wedding specialist helps a couple plan a wedding away from home, usually at a resort, and organizes the travel for the couple and their guests. Andrea Coots helps couples choose the destination and resort, books and supports every guest’s travel, coordinates with the resort’s wedding team, and steps in when anything changes before, during or after the trip. She guides couples from the first idea all the way to their dream wedding.

Who is Andrea Coots?

Andrea Coots is a Destination Wedding Specialist with DestinationWeddings.com, where she has worked since 2016. She is based in Cedar Hill, Texas, and owns Wedding Blissed & Sun Kissed LLC. She was a DestinationWeddings.com bride first: she and her husband were married through DestinationWeddings.com in July 2014. She has planned hundreds of destination weddings, was named a Top US Destination Wedding Specialist in 2023, 2025 and 2026, and has been a Top 10 Specialist five years in a row.

Is it free to work with Andrea? How is she paid?

Yes, it is free. Andrea is paid by the resorts, not by the couple or their guests, so her planning help costs you nothing.

How do group rates and perks work?

Because Andrea books so many weddings with resorts, she can secure excellent group rates. Depending on the resort and how many rooms your group books, your group can earn perks such as complimentary nights, discounts off rooms, wedding package discounts, room upgrades and resort credits. Perks vary by resort, so Andrea will show you exactly what your group qualifies for. See how the free-to-couples model works.

Do our guests book through Andrea?

Yes. In Andrea’s process, guests book their travel directly with her, so the whole group has one point of contact. She handles room changes, name swaps, payment plans, transfers and guest questions, so they don’t land on the couple. For details on how booking works for your resort and group, ask Andrea.

Our guests range from seasoned travelers to first-timers. Is that okay?

Absolutely. Every guest gets one point of contact: Andrea. Payment plans, room changes and transfers are all handled, and first-time travelers can bring their questions to her.

Where does Andrea plan destination weddings?

Most of Andrea’s couples choose all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and the Caribbean. Her couples have married in places such as Punta Cana, Riviera Maya, Cancún, Tulum, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Costa Mujeres, Costa Rica and Aruba. She has traveled throughout Mexico and the Caribbean to experience resorts and meet resort wedding teams, and has had couples marry at most of the major wedding resorts in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and the Caribbean. Dreaming of somewhere else? Ask her.

Do we need to know where we want to get married before we contact her?

No. Share your vibe, budget, rough guest count and dates. If you have no idea which country yet, that is where Andrea starts.

Can Andrea handle a large guest list?

Yes. Large destination weddings are Andrea’s specialty, and she is an organizer at heart. Couples in her reviews describe groups of around 75 guests who all booked through her, more than 75 guests traveling to the Dominican Republic, 75 people traveling to Mexico, 51 guests, and 45+ guests in Tulum. Read reviews from large weddings.

What happens if flights are delayed or plans change?

Andrea steps in. When flights are delayed, airports close or a wedding needs to be rescheduled, she rebooks shuttles, rooms and dates so the celebration still happens. In her reviews, one couple pushed their wedding back a month when Mexico’s airports shut down, another couple’s guests hit unexpected flight delays and Andrea helped reschedule shuttles and resort reservations, and a Cancún wedding was rescheduled from 2020 to 2021 because of Covid.

Does Andrea plan honeymoons or other trips?

Weddings are her specialty, and past couples also come back to her for honeymoons, milestone birthdays, anniversaries and family trips.
